Back in the pool

I swam today for the first time in about two weeks, now that I'm finally recovered from the bad cold. Here's what I did. I modified from a coach's workout:

5 x 100 free, 75 swim and 25 Tarzan Drill
4 x 50 kick, 25 plow/25 regular
200 pull
100 stroke, 50 breast/50 back
8 x 25 on :40
200 easy

1400 yards total, 40 minutes

I found out an old friend had died suddenly of a heart attack. I found out yesterday, but it happened the night before. I don't really know how to react. I hadn't seen him in years, but he was such a good guy. He was only 47 and in great shape, with a young family. I am also friends with his wife, who probably never expected to be a widow at such a young age. I have been trying to remember to appreciate my own life, because it really shows that you can do everything you can to be healthy (and should) but there are no guarantees.

I didn't feel like cooking after all that last night, so we had bread and cheese and wine and apple for dinner. Not the healthiest or the lowest-calorie choice.  I had a huge veggie plate (2 carrots, lots of celery, cherry tomatoes) with hummus in anticipation, so I didn't just let nutrition totally slide.

Daily checklist:

  • Average 300 minutes of exercise, with at least 30 minutes per day: Did a 35-minute Spin class and followed with a 45-minute yoga class. I was running late for Spin and almost skipped it, but I did it anyway.  I am not sure about doing Spin/Yoga back-to-back. I think they are both good for me, but being tired from Spin means that I'm not giving my all in yoga. Is it better to do a half-hearted yoga class than no yoga at all?
  • Log all food in Lose It! and stay in the "green zone": Was 52 calories over, but about 200 more than my personal goal.  I earned a lot of calories from exercise but used a lot on the aforementioned wine and cheese dinner.
  • Take my supplements: Forgot them until it was too late. (already took them for today)
  • Drink at least 90 ounces of liquids today: I logged only 52, but I know I didn't log all of the water I drank.
  • Get at least 35 grams of fiber: 19 grams. Cheese has no fiber. Neither does wine.
