No-buy February

I feel like I have bought a lot of things lately. I got a new computer this summer, I got a new car in December, I recently bought two new purses, a new wallet, and I broke down and bought the jacket I liked. Plus I have Christmas presents and the clothes I bought for myself while shopping for other people...

It's making me feel selfish to buy so much stuff. Plus, I now have a new car payment to deal with.  I don't think it should be too challenging to stop buying things for a month, especially a month as short as February.

I will buy groceries. But I won't buy other stuff at the grocery store like skincare products, nail polishes, housewares, or the various other things that they stock at Kroger that have nothing to do with groceries (I saw an overstuffed chair for sale there today).  I will also try to use as much of the food we have in the pantry and freezer as we can before buying something new.

I figure a month off of spending will be good discipline for me and will help get our finances in order. I am looking forward to a tax refund this year that I plan to use to pay off some bills.

I'm sure this will be harder than it sounds, but it will also be good for me. Anyone want to join in?


  1. At first I was like, "What? NO way!" but now that I think about it, I could probably manage. I just bought all new makeup and body products and I certainly don't need any new clothes or shoes for a good long while. I'm getting a haircut on Tuesday (as you know, I have short hair and I haven't had one since NOVEMBER) but other than that, sigh, I'm sure I could survive the shortest month of the year without buying anything besides food.

    But that's not gonna stop me from LOOKING.

  2. I do have a haircut scheduled -- maybe that's cheating but I'm just trying not to waste money on stuff I don't need! Looking is totally allowed.

  3. I was just thinking that I needed to use up as much as possible from freezers. Probably ditto with pantry.

    There are several household things that need done (I have all the stuff, just need the handyman again).

    And there are several areas in our bedroom that need attention - no supplies needed, need to sort and organize what is there.

    And I have a photo album project that I need to address (I have the supplies, just need to do it).

    So I am going to use February to work on those things. Really good time to do it. Indoor projects. Can do in small sections. Will see results very quickly. Can be done (each) in a few days. So a month is very practical. Like one area a week.
