30 in 30 Day 8: April 26

Today I kept my workout simple and restorative: I did a 45-minute yoga class. I had another busy weekend and my energy level is low. I had a great hour-long swim last night, and I feel comfortable with the idea of taking an easier day today. I am putting off my next "Bridge to 10K" workout until tomorrow, but at least I got my minimum of activity in.

For those of you who aren't able to do something every day, are you making it too hard on yourselves? Can you find 30 minutes to do something active, even if it isn't a "workout," to get your minutes in?

I personally don't believe that every workout has to increase your heartrate to X% of your maximum and leave you soaked in sweat. I love those kinds of workouts, but sometimes I like to take it a little easier on myself and give myself time to recover. I'm trying to build a lifetime habit here.

I'm also trying to remind myself that no matter how busy I feel, I need some time for myself and my own health. Hopefully that is something that resonates with you, too.

  1. 60 minutes zumba today, yesterday a bust unless you count housework. Is that cheating? :)

  2. Housework can count if it's active. If it's standing in the kitchen loading the dishwasher, maybe not, but mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, etc., can get pretty strenuous, at least at Chez Toledolefty.

  3. I have done about 5 hours of serious shopping, loading, unloading, hauling upstairs and putting away...on top of wearing the dogs out! That is my workout for the day!

Hope you feel better after yoga!

  4. I had a great day of activity - over an hour of walking, 30 minutes of weights and then more walking to get home. My body is really feeling it today.

The weekend was awesome for exercise - we were away for a relaxing weekend but the hotel had a gym which we USED the gym for a change. Both days, I worked out for 45 minutes. Quite impressed with myself.

Although the way I'm feeling today, I think I might take it easy!

  5. I with you, Jen. I just feel so much more grounded and clear when I do SOMETHING active for myself. Be it a quick 20 minute yoga session in my bathroom floor or just to take the dog for a 10 minute walk. I may not get all sweaty, but I FEEL better. I always joke that if I didn't exercise, I would have a mental breakdown. Exercise keeps me sane!
I just finished a nice 50 minute yoga session via Yoga and Yoga Journal podcasts. I can't afford my wonderful yoga studio right now as I am unemployed and something had to go. Thankfully, there are a lot of free yoga podcasts out there!
I'm also teaching my belly dance fitness class tonight. Get to dance up a sweat with some great ladies!
